When choosing a floor, doing your own research is highly advisable. Collect all the necessary information before making your trip to the store & your experience will be easy and efficient.

  1. Draw or retrieve your floor-plan. Try including the room type, dimensions of the room/rooms & and closet spaces. Additional beneficial information such as door & window locations, wall colours, and number of vents are also excellent to include.

  2. Take pictures of the space from different angles to help your associate get an idea of what you are working with. If your floor will be installed adjacent to another floor, take a picture of that too!

  3. We advise knowing the type of flooring in adjacent rooms, the substrate material (subfloor and its thickness ie; plywood, cement, radiant), and any required FIIC sound attenuation standards (applies to condominiums).

  4. Other things to consider when purchasing a floor;

  • Do you have a preferred colour group in mind

  • Whats your decor style - classic, modern, rustic etc.

  • Whats your preferred wood species

  • Does the room get a lot of natural light

  • What style of furniture do you have

  • Is this a high traffic area

  • Do you have young children

  • Do you have pets

  • What type of finish do you like - Semi-gloss, Cashmere/Pearl, Matte, Oiled

Many of our partners offer excellent tools to visualize flooring in your spaces. We recommend trying Karndean Floor Designer tool, Torlys Visualize, Kentwood Lookbook, or Fuzion Visualizer.
